I have a Gouldian Finch male & a Zebra finch female after about 4 weeks together, they suddenly have built a nest, with about 4 eggs (can't see well in there) and take turns sitting on it. Will these eggs hatch? Its been about 14 days. Her chest feathers have always seemed ruffled and not smooth, is that anything to worry about?

Zebras are very prolific in having babies. Gouldians present a more challenging situation. Although there's a nest and eggs, it is possible they are not fertile and won't produce offspring.

Mixtures of species are not looked upon favorably because there are a lot of dedicated individuals trying to cultivate different strains and qualities, such as colors, in a species.

I wouldn't worry about the ruffled feathers if she is otherwise acting normally. Sometimes they puff up when preening.

I highly doubt that these two can have babies. But practicing sure is fun!
