How do I make proper nesting for my red earslider
Sent to Pet Experts April 18 05:46 PM

The turtle is female. I put her on the tank with a male (accidentally), and I saw they mate, I could not stop it.. It was on Feb 10, 2007. I am sure she will lay eggs because she has a digging behavior for the past week and 1/2. I dont know what to do to make an appropriate nesting site. I put a lot potting soil in the floor, but she only likes to dig on the carpet. She ignores everything but the carpet. I do not want her to get egg bound or die. When is she supposed to lay the eggs? What can I do or where should I take her? what are signs that something might be wrong with her? Any turtle vets around 11377?

Optional Information:
Age: 9; Female; Breed: Red ear slider Turtle

Already Tried:
I put her in a 3ft by 3ft place. With 3-4 inch of potting soil. She does not like it, she wants to get out. She only likes to dig in the carpet or the floor of the house, but doesn't lay anything. She eats well. I feed her lettuce,a little bit of fruit, chicken, bread, she does not like turtle repto min food anymore. When I place her in water she usually remains calm, but sometimes she wants to get out so I take her out. She walks around and digs with her hind legs but she stops doing that and continues walking.
