My Husky has a skin condition that the vets keep stating is hot spots but I am not convinced that is the problem. I have read about Zinc deficiency and that sounds close to what it may be with hair loss from round on site skin infection, than skin redness, to scabing, than spreads. Is there other things that would cause this skin condition.

I don't see why you couldn't just try using a supplement such as Derm Caps with Zinc or Linatone with Zinc which are formulated to help with such skin problems to see if that works for your dog.
If your dog is not on flea prevention that could be the issue also.
Food or inhalant allergies also can cause serious skin problems in dogs.
But if you don't want to play around with guessing and are not comfortable with your vet saying 'hot spots' without any solutions. I'd suggest seeing a veterniary dermatologist to work with someone experieced with all kinds of skin issues in dogs.

Yes, after being online today and finding that it may be a zinc deficientcy I will try that.

My Husky is on flea prevention in regards to the food allergies Scotty developed this 1 year ago and he is now 11.

Thanks for the website did not come across it on the web.

Have you come across any other Huskys with this kind of problem?

The weird thing about food allergies is that dogs can develop them any time and to a food they have always eaten

and sometimes companies change food formulas without mentioning it.
Also if you have not tested for thyroid issues you might do that - that can trigger skin conditions and allergies too and senior dogs can have thyroid issues.
