My 2 Year Old Male Cocker generally vomits (after he eats

Sent to Pet Experts October 23, 2005 7:35 p.m.

My 2 Year Old Male Cocker generally vomits (after he eats grass) in the morning about 3-4 times per week. He is very healthy, active, 26 lbs. His vomit is normally mixed with grass and is Clear to yellow. I have read some concerens that vets may have with Pancreas issues, however I am not sure that this is the case. There are no other health issues that he has and I am hoping this is not a food alergy - he eats PREMIUM food (Nutro - Max) from PetSmart. He has been doing this for quite some time. Before I run him to the vet, maybe this is just normal? What do the experts say. . . thank you :)   Wes Hobbs   (www.weshobbs.com)

Eating grass can cause vomiting all by itself so you should discourage this behavior. If you are seeing yellow vomit, this usually means two things - you are seeing bile and he is vomiting on an empty stomach.

Since you know that he's vomiting on an empty stomach, you can somewhat help this by never letting his stomach empty. Offer him food at night before you walk him one last time and then feed him when he wakes up. You might even want to give him a bland diet when he has flare ups. Boiled chicken and white rice is a great choice (no bones, no skin). Some vets will recommend that you go so far as offering tagamed or pepcid to help with reflux if this is an underlying cause.

Let me know if you still have questions.
