About a week ago I took my two dogs to be bathed at my vets clinic. Now, one of my dogs has kennel cough (I think). He has thrown up and he sounds like he has something stuck in his throat. My dogs have been vaccinated for kennel cough (by said vet). Should I demand that they treat him and my other dog for kennel cough free?

He has only thrown up once (last night) and it was yuckie yellow stuff and smelled really bad. After that, I could barely see him breathing and when he did try to breath, he could seem to be gasping for breath. It scared the begebies out of me. I held him in my arms while sitting in a chair from 3:00 a.m. until 7:20 when I took him to my vet. The doctor wasn't in and they said for me to bring him back home or they would put him in a kennel. I took him home but had to leave him to travel 60 miles to a funeral. He hasn't thrown up (that I know of) but his cough is still there. They said I could bring in back in tomorrow morning. What should I do?

He can breathe somewhat normally now but his cough (which is a dry one) comes about every 30 minutes or so. He is eating okay but he doesn't seem to want to drink much.

I also have his 3 1/2 year old brother. Should I take him to the vet also so he won't get it too? Should he be on an antibiotic too? My dogs are Max (the one sick) and Brodie. They are brothers (they have the same mother and father but are 6 months apart in age). I will probably let Max sleep with me tonight in case he needs me. Would that be okay?

He certainly can sleep with you. What he has is in all lieklihood not contagious to you.
As for your other dog, if he is not showing any symptoms of illness, then he does not need to see the vet. Most of the time, these illnesses are caused by viruses, which antibiotics can do nothing to fend off. The antibiotic is usually given only to dogs that are already showing symptoms to help clear up and/or prevent any secondary bacterial pneumonia from occurring. If your second dog is not showing symptoms, the vet won't really prescribe anything for him.
