My son has been raising Yellow Labs. The most recent litter produced one puppy that was normal initially and then it developed a bluish cast to its eye almost like a cataract but it could see just fine. It went away for awhile and then came back. He took the pup to a vet who said it is "blue eye" and is probably a reaction to a vaccination the pup received.

Will this go away? Does this affect the pups ability to be trained for something such as pheasant hunting?

Hello and thanks for researching this important question!

Labradors do carry a genetic kind of cataract that does become apparent in youngsters.

Many of these congenital cataract conditions do not interfere with daily vision, but dogs that participate in any field trials should be evaluated by a licensed Veterinary Ophthalmologist when vision is in question.

This pup should be examined even if this is some kind of vaccine reaction, because your son needs to know if this pairing is producing weak offspring. At the very least, he should consider using a different vaccine if no defect is found!
