Can cats and dogs take human antibiotics?

My daughter's Chihuahua injured her eye. She has a hole or tear in it. It is turning red and cloudy but she has a cone on her head to keep her from scratching it. She needs antibiotics I was told but I cant afford the vet and neither can my daughter. What can I do to save her eye?
