My 13 yr old unneutered mixed shepherd ha

Sent to Pet Experts April 11, 2006 5:33 p.m.

My 13 yr old unneutered mixed shepherd has a large(2 in. diameter) perianal adenoma. It was removed last June, but metastisized and returned larger with multiple tumors in his digestive track. It bleeds a lot and I cannot seem to give him anything to make it stop. The local vet and vet university school gave up on him. I give him transfer factor, raspberry seed powder, flax seed oil, shark cartilage, shark liver oil, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, carrot juice, fish oil, in raw ground turkey, plus a chicken quarter every day. His blood and urine tests, etc., were fine. He acts normal other than slowing down and licking the sore often. Any suggestions?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

If the big goal is to get the tumor to stop bleeding then try some styptic powder right on the bleeding areas.
Check the various oils you are giving for vitamin E because while it is an antioxidant it can also promote bleeding.
If you have not consulted a veterinary oncologist you may want to do that. This site may help you find one

Did the vet ask you about neutering him? these sorts of tumors may be testosterone dependent and removing the source of testosterone may slow things some but also might not at this stage.
Hope this helps you!
