Hello, I have a 2 year old male pug. I noticed someting

Sent to Pet Experts October 22, 2005 4:54 a.m.

Hello, I have a 2 year old male pug. I noticed someting really funny with his eye late this evening. The eye is not clouded over, the eye is kinda transparent and when you look in to his eye it looks inverted. concaved on the inside. He did not cry or yipe. He is acting fine, and he is even moving it. I was wondering could this also be a scratch. Now the eye is not clouded it is almost see through. If you could help that would be great and I would really owe you big. Thank you, Amberly

Optional Information: Age: 2; Male; Breed: Pug
Already Tried:
I put Antropine 1% solution and NPB Opthal in his eye. He has had a scratch before and this looks like nothing he has had before.

This sounds like he might have a problem with his retina. While it could be an infection I'd not use the atropine on it as that dilates the eye changing the internal fluid pressure.
Another possibility is the surface of the eye changing due to infection.
You do need to get him to a vet as soon as you can. With eye issues you don't want to wait and see.
If your vet cannot help you then you may want to see a veterinary opthamologist.
http://www.veterinaryvision.com/When.htm talks about veterinary opthamology
and this site lists common issues in pug eyes
http://www.pugcentral.com/eyes.html
Hope this helps you!

Hello,
I know the dog has an infection in eye. I would like to know what the condition he has is. The site that you gave me does not list any condition that fits his symptoms. I am looking to find out some general information specific to the conditions that he has. I like to find out some general information before taking him to the vet. (Oh and his vet is out of town till Tuesday, and I do not like the person that is filling in for him.) I use to work for a vet in high school for about 3 years, but that has been about 8 years ago. I do not remeber ever seeing a eye that looked like his. The eye is not hurting him, the eye has good movement, it even seems as though he can see out of it, and the light does not bother him. So if you could please point me to maybe some specific conditions that fit his symptoms that would be great. Thank you Customer (name blocked for privacy)

ACCEPTED Check Mark

My feeling is if it looks like the inside structure of the eye has something wrong then it might be a retinal problem.
If it looks like the outside of the eye is caved in then I'd worry about an eye pressure problem or an injury dropping the pressure of the eye fluid within the eye structure.
This could be a lens luxation too.
If you mean the eye is heavily convex (coning outwards) then this could be glaucoma in which case the medication with the atropine might be an aid to helping him reduce the pressure in the eye.
More descriptive eye diseases with some diagrams off this site
http://www.eyevet.info/
see if the lens luxation seems like what you are seeing.
At this site under membership you may be able to find a veterinary opthamologist near you to see
http://www.asvo.org/
I'm just not getting the image you are trying to convey in words which is why I'm sending you places to look as you know what you are seeing!
If its not hurting him then waiting to see a vet you trust might be the best thing to do - or you may want to just plan to see the opthamologist with him and call your regular clinic to see who they refer you to on Monday.

Thank you so much for that site. I think I found out what it sounds like. Horner's. Do you know about that conditions. Does it repair it self with out medication, or only with that medication? What happens if it does not heal it self. Have you ever heard of this before? Thank you so much for all of your help in advance. I am picky about the doctors I choose for him, because he had seizures as a puppy (he is good now) and so many vets had no clue about what they where doing and they just did meaning less test over and over. They never even came up with a cause or a cure. Well I researched and researched and realized that his siezures where caused by milk and milk by products. (He is a puppy from one of my mothers litters)Dr. Duncan was the first and only vet to ever listen and consider the possibilities that I might just be right. Well I was and he is the best vet that I know of. I am 25 years old and I am pre med. So I do not have alot of extra money to waste on vet visits so that someone can guess, and test and test to see what the problem is. Dr. Duncan is good and he usualy gets things on the first try, but he is a little on the expensive side. The best usualy are. I wanted to do this before I go in on Tuesday so that I might give a suggestion on what I think it might be. To maybe cut down on the coast. I do not know what I would do with some thing ever happened to him. So if you have any more advice or suggestions that would be great.

Thank you so so much,

Amberly

P.S. Sorry if I sounded rude earlier. I am really tired, between school and work and now this I don't know if I am coming or going. And please excuse mispelled words, I can not seem to get my crap together today.
