Question

hepitis in mini schnauzers

I have a mini schnauzer,8,1/2 years old. She has been diagnoised with chemical hepitis. She has been put on actigall 30 mg 2x daily prednisolone 5 mg, and it has now been reduced to 1 evert other day,lasix 12.5 mg2x daily, cephalexin 250 mg 2x daily denosyl 225mg once daily before her meal. She has water accumalation, about 1200 cc every other day..
c an I give her milk thisle, turmeric, and articoke, along with her meds. ? Do you have any other suggestions.

Milk thistle may help and there is a new product out called Marin by the people who make Cosequin that contains the active ingredient in that herb.

But if you want to add holistic remedies to what your vet is prescribing I'd suggest working with a holistic veterinarian or discussing the alternative meds with your vet. You want to make sure you are getting a top quality herbal product and that it won't interfere with the meds the dog is on. This site might help you find a holistic vet to work with
