Has the vet actually diagnosed cysts? Where are they located?

Yes, the cysts were diagnosed. One ruptured and was treated surgically. They are all on her back. The Vitamin dose causes them to dry up and then the resulting dry area washes off in the bath and heals over. She still gets new ones, but they are small and disappear in a few days. I read about the treatment in the Merck Manual, but I am concerned about long term use of the Vitamin A and cannot find any information on how or when to limit the treatment.

Hi Tammy asked me to step in to help you.
As far as I can tell this is a short term treatment.
this has a use protocol for a larger breed

It looks like you do 3 weeks higher dose then cut in half for 3 weeks.
However I think that is an awfully high dose of what can be a toxic vitamin. You can read here about what the toxic levels are and how long they are given to produce the negative side effects

My feeling is if you are going to be using a holistic 'cure' then you need to be working hand in hand with a veterinarian trained in such protocols.
This site might help you find such a vet in you area to work with

Hope this helps you!

Thanks for your reply..I do know a Westie breeder who has used this protocol successfully. I'll double check with my vet, although, he is a surgeon and sees surgery as the best bet.
