Question

blood in stool?

Sent to Pet Experts November 24, 2005 2:09 a.m.

We have a 11 week old yorkie. He seems active and eating but we noticed blood in his stool. I thought I noticed it yesterday but wasn't sure. Today he had a bowel movement and we actually noticed drops of blood in the stool and after the stool, and onn his bottom.

Why is this and what should we do? Help!

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Blood in the stool can be from a dietary issue or a possible parasite, so if you have made a change in his diet lately this could be the cause or he could have developed an intolerance to what you are feeding him. It could also be a parasite which if you have a good relationship with your veterinarian in most cases you can take a stool sample in for them to test it for parasites and safe taking him in. If they do not find anything in the stool sample and you think the diet is not the cause in most cases it is best to have him examined by your veternarian.
