It sounds as though your maltese is having an allergic reactin to the sting and I advise giving some Benadyl at a dose of 1 mg per pound so you would need to give one fourth of a 25 mg pill every 12 hours. If you see a worsening in the reaction such as labored breathing, swelling, or not wanting to eat or drink that you have your maltese seen as soon as possible, but in minor reactions the benadryl can help greatly. If this does not help I advise contactin a veterinarian as soon as possible if the reaction seems to be severe.
