Question

Throwing up, but otherwise ok

Sent to Pet Experts April 17, 2005 5:02 p.m.

Hello, hoping you can help me. My 11 year old Golden retriever/lab mix has been throwing up for 48 hours now...not the entire time but after she's eaten, a few hours later, she throws up. her energy level seems to be fine, and she's wanting to eat, so she still has an appetite, and when she goes to the bathroom, it seems ok, but she can't keep her food down, but it seems odd that it doens't happen right away?? We feed she and my other lab Science Diet Low Cal for older dogs. Sometimes it's food that hasn't been digested, other times, it's yellowey mucus stuff.....husband doesn't seem to think there is anything to worry about since she still has energy and her appetite. I can tell when she's about to be sick, b/c she like smacks her mouth together -- it's hard to explain.....Anyway, another important point may be that this isn't the first time this has happened, she goes through spurts of this, and we've had her x-rayed, nothing weird going on inside, but that was probably about 1 year ago while she ws having an incident of it. It may happen like every 4 or five weeks. And she doesn't eat when you feed her right away al the time. Sometiimes she'll take it right down, other times, she'll wait half the day to eat. Today when I put her food down, she took it right away, then probably 7 hours later, she threw up until it was all out of her, like 4 times. Any advice would be appreciated. Melissa

The time line doesn't fit...but has your vet recommended medication like Pepcid AC or Reglan?
