I have a pet rat and he doesnt seem to be doing so well. For the past two days, he has been very lethargic and I don't think he has been eating. He has always had a habit of taking some of his food and burying it in his cage, but recently I have been noticing that when I feed him he just turns the food dish over. Is there anything I should try doing forr him before I take him to a vet.

Optional Information:
Age: 1; Male; Breed: jumbo eared rat

Already Tried:
I have tried putting in some of the food I give him for treats, like crackers but he still doesnt want to seem to eat, also he is drinking very little and only wants to lay in the corner.

Hello,

I would suggest an ER Vet. You live in Wellington, and there is a ER Vet on Forest Hill Blvd. before you get to Congress Ave. It is on the Right side going East.

Rats carry mycoplasma which is an organism. All of our rats in the pet population carry this organism . Stress or other illness can make your rat break with an active infection. This can lead to pneumonia if left untreated. There is no cure for mycoplasma, but it can be controlled with antibiotics until the very advanced stages of the disease. It is the main cause of rat respiratory illness.

I hope this helps. Joan Jav917

Ok, thank you, Im gonna try to get him in tomorrow, or well a descent hour. In the mean time time is there anything I should do for him? I mean I hate to say it but Im not sure how long he has been burying all his. I mean this is absolutly not like him, usually if I dont feed him at exactly the same time, he knocks his food dish against the glass. And right now I cant even get him to eat snacks.
