Question

Urgent: Need adive about a pug face lift

Sent to Pet Experts January 23, 2005 11:29 a.m.

Hello! I am in need of your advice and experiences. I am a proud pug owner of two perfect pugs…Friday, a 3½ year old male fawn pug, as well as Tuesday, a 5 month old female black pug. I am writing because I am searching out veterinarians/vet techs, to pull from their experiences, and ask for their advice. I recently took Friday to a vet (who is a new vet for me and my pugs), and was told that he needed to have some cosmetic surgery to remove the rather large wrinkle he has over his nose and under his eyes. We were told that this wrinkle is so big that it is pushing his lower eyelids up against his eyes, turning them in, and as a result they are scratching his eye. This scratching has caused scares, which in turn has caused a couple of small patches of blindness in Friday’s vision (mostly the lower part towards his nose).
Previously, Friday’s vet (a different vet then this last one I wrote about) looked at the spots in his eyes (we took him to the vet when we noticed them at home). The vet had to go “look at the book” and came back telling us something like he has some disease or infection. Basically we would have to put drops in his eyes twice a day for the rest of his life to hopefully slow down this process of the spots eventually totally taking over his vision. The fact that the vet had to “go look at the book” is what made us decide to change vets in the first place.
Ok, back to the present. Our current vet that told us Friday would need cosmetic surgery informed us that this condition of the wrinkles causing the eyelids to turn in and hence scratch the eyes is something that is found in breeds like pugs and sharpe’s. Our vet insisted we schedule the surgery because it is something that needs to be done in order to protect Friday’s vision. We of course went ahead and scheduled for this next Friday (Jan 28th). I am writing to see if any of you have heard of this happening or experienced this personally with and of the pugs you have seen. Please let me know what you know about this condition and if you have recommended oweners give their pugs “face lifts” to prevent blindness.
Thank you and I hope to hear from as many of you as possible and as soon as possible (before Jan 28th would be best)!!!!!!!

P.S. As you can see, unfortunately I am unable to pay more than $5 for help..I have already sought advice from two vets as well as the fact that I do not own a credit card...but I beg you to respond...my pugs are my kids.

Thank you for all the information. First, are the spots brown?

Thank you for for replying so quickly...
In the white area of the eye they are brown, in the colored area of his eye they appear more black, or even a dark blue in sunlight.
