4 year old spayed Pitbull
Sent to Pet Experts January 11 04:00 PM

My 4 year old spayed pitbull has had a yellow/brown terrible smelling discharge from her vagina for the past two years. She has had no other health problems and is not in any pain or discomfort from this. She has had several expensive urinary test and numerous treatments with antibiotics with no results. It comes and goes every 2-4 weeks mainly at night. Myself nor the Doc's have ever been able to get a swab to send to the lab. This has been a very expensive diagnostic process with no results. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Reply to ZooCVT's Post: The discharge is not a constant thing. It comes out all at once and not much at that. Everytime I have taken her after I have seen the discharge the Doc's can find nothing to swab. I have tired to take a swab at home but as I mentioned it is usaully at night and by the time I have the swab it has stopped and the discharge has smeared into her bedding. The Dos'c have told me they need a "clean" catch to cultiure.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, I'm thinking thats not necessarily correct...to an extent it is but your vet can do a deeper swab...insert it vaginally. Technically, any swab like like isn't really "clean" in the sense of sterile but you can tell whats normal bacteria and whats not. If you had noticed it prior to coming in, there will still be evidence leftover. It won't be completely gone so doing a vaginal swab will get some of whats left. You only need a touch. Should there be anything growing that doesn't belong, you will be able to determine it.
