Sore hips & little accidents

Sent to Pet Experts December 29 07:12 AM

My 12-year-old nuetered Shepherd/Akita cross is
favoring
his hips lately, taking time to get up and
dropping his
hind quarters instead of sitting down slowly. He still
runs and gets excited for his walk etcetera but is
dropping part of a stool sample while walking
whereas he
has always let us know when he had to go if it
wasn?t his
morning bowel movement. Never urinates inside,
never has,
loves to potty outside. He?s in at night and out
in the
backyard during the day. We are being careful that
he has
his two meals a day and limiting snacks and after
he eats
each meal we take him out. I?ve been considering
arthritis medication but was wondering if he has lost
feeling back there and unable to feel the pressure of
having to go. Would arthritis medication releive
pain and
help him regain and recognize these other BM feelings?
What is the best thing for me to do? Thank you, Lisa

That is quite possible and it will sometimes cause incontinence. There are medications and suppliments that will help. Glucosamine w/ MSM is a very good suppliment but he may need something stronger to help out with it and your vet will be able to supply it..something like Adequan or Rimadyl. I would have your vet rule out any other medical issues that may cause it then point you to the medication that would best suit him.
Good Luck!
