Question

Sent to Pet Experts December 28, 2004 1:05 p.m.

My bred mare has orange colored urine. She feels good and eats good. What could the problem be?

Did you notice this because of seeing it in the snow?  The reason I asked - Sue Stuska, Ed. D from Eclectic Horseman has written on this and states that it is a natural occurence - urine hitting snow turn orange colored.  I have no personal experience with this (with my mini's anyway) so I can't verify this as true.  It sounds crazy but who knows.  The only other thing I have read is to add salt to your horses diet.  Again - not sure if this is the right treatment.  I suggest a call to your equine vet would be the best thing to do.  Let me know what you find out!  I'm curious too.  (Obviously I'll make this a free post considering I haven't really answered your questions :>)
