he has had some joint problems in the past and when boarded at vets in November, vet noticed he was having trouble walking. Now one rear leg seems to be always slipping out from under and last week the vet said Rock, the pet, looked like he might have a neuropathy instead because he appears to not know the leg is there. I am keeping him off Rimadyl for a few days and will start cortisone. Rock does not appear to be in any kind of pain.

Were any blood tests done?  There are various forms of neuropathy - caused by diabetes to toxins.  And I believe the specific treatment depends what has caused this to happen.  I do know high dosage cortisone treatments for a few days and B12 injections have been used as treatment but I recall it's controversial among veternarians.

Let me know about any testing that has been done - thanks.

Does your dog have any of these symptoms: weight loss, poor skin and hair coat, liver disease, vomiting

The reason I ask  - diabetic neuropathy generally effects the rear legs....

I would suggest asking your vet if there are tests he can perform to help diagnosis this OR refer you to a specialist.  I wish I could be of more help.  I'm sure if anyone else has input they will post a reply to you also.

I do wish you the best.  Let me know if there's anything else I can do.
