Do you have information on Lantus Insulin use in felines?
Sent to Pet Experts October 25 12:28 PM

I am an insulin dependent diabetic and have taken Lantus (glargine) since 2000. My 10 year old female cat has now come up with diabetes but my vet knows nothing about Lantus and is hesitant to try it. Do you know of any studies or recomended starting doses of Lantus therapy in felines? Thanks.......

Glargine (Lantus) seems to work well in newly diagnosed cats with diabetes. It forms crystals under the skin that are slowly absorbed so it seems to last longer with less insulin. It is much more expensive than PZI insulin and it does not work well if you are switching a cat off of one insulin to go onto Lantus. It is not perfected for cats yet!!

Reply to dr4pets's Post: Having been on Lantus myself for 6 years, I am familiar with how it works and what it costs and the web has given me a lot of general information on feline use. What I haven't been able to find is specific dose ranges. I was hoping to find a Doctor with personal experience in treating diabetic felines with Lantus and who has performed glucose curves to establish their dose and level of control.

Relist: I still need help.
I am looking for a specific dose range from someone experienced with Lantus, not general information.
