We have been treating our 12 year old lhasa apso for a yeast infection in his ear. It started in one ear and we treated it for 14 days but it still seemed to bother him so I took him in to the vet for a recheck. She said it was looking better but was still infected. I also had her check the other ear and sure enough it also had a yeast infection. So, one ear has been treated for almost 28 day and the other for almost 14 days.   Right now our lhasa apso doesn't seem to hear us very well and the common noises that used to alert him- he doesn't seem to hear. Is this because of the yeast infection or due to the amount of medication that has been being put into his ears. It really bothers me that he doesn't seem to hear very well.

It's fairly common to see limited hearing when you are using ear washes and ear medication. I would not be too concerned about it UNLESS the hearing does not return within 10 -14 days of the time that you STOP the medication.

At that point, I would want a full evaluation by the vet, again.

But hearing loss at this point is somewhat common.

Let me know if you need more help.
