Question

Is this an ulcer

Sent to Pet Experts October 10, 2006 9:19 p.m.

Jesse had a lump on her side . The vet said if it weren't bothering her, jut leave it alone.
That was several mos ago. No change...until tonight. Th bump opened up and out came very thick white smelly pastelike stuff. I squeezed it gently til it was empty. No blood. I washed the gaping hole with warm water. trimmed her hair away from the hole and applied neosporin oint. It looks terrible, but Jesse isn't showing any sign of pain... only a little disconfort when I applied pressure to rid her of the poisen.
Help! did I do the right thing?
What do I do now?
What am I dealing with?

Dear friend,

It sounds like Jesse had an abscess. You did the right thing to bring the infection to the surface and remove the infection from Jesse's system. You can continue to apply neospren. Also, use very warm damp compresses to get it all out. If it gets worse or Jesse stops eating, she may require an antibiotic. Aside from that she should be fine.
please let me know if you still have questions. I will be happy to help.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri
