My 1 year old boxer has always been very healthy until today. She woke me up this morning about 5 a.m with a horrable cough. She sounds like she is trying to get something up and can't. She is not vommitting, her breathing is fine-but a little noisey at times. I am concerned that she may have a cold. She has no dicharge from her nose, and her eyes are clear. She is acting fine it's just this coughing thing sounds aweful.

Optional Information:
Age: 1; Female; Breed: Boxer

Good morning to you :) There are many reasons for dogs to start coughing...kennel cough, parasites like roundworm or heartworm, distemper (should not be an issue if your girl is utd on shots), a fungus or allergies. You can try to run a hot shower and fill your bathroom with the steam....allow your girl in at 10-15 minute intervals to get some relief. If the cough worsens or does not get any better throughout today, you will want to give your vet a call tomorrow regarding this. You can read more about canine coughs here:

Hope this helps and explains to you the possible reasons for this and hope your girl feels better soon :)
