I have a 9-year-ol lab/shepard (?) mix. Several days ago he started having difficulty with his back legs. At times he has difficulty getting up while sitting or laying down. I don't know if he has pulled something or is getting arthritis or something more serious. He has no other symptoms and has been a healthy dog. He gets moderate exercise and before these symptoms he had been on a short hike and then a short run the following day. Any info would be appreciated.

He may be having hip arthritis or some trouble with his spine. He's starting to be a senior dog.
Another possibility is a tick carried disease can cause pain and stiffness in a dog.
I'd have your vet check him over.
You can see if glucosamine chondroitin will help him if its arthritis.
But if its a tick carried disease then you will want antibiotics.
And your vet has good pain meds for dogs too that will reduce inflammation if its a disc or hip problem.
Hope this helps you!

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: Thanks for your response. Will the vet need to do xrays to determine spine or arthritis problems?
