Question

Bee Stings

Sent to Pet Experts September 24, 2006 3:40 p.m.

We have a chocolate lab, pointer mix named Ellie (she weighs about 50 lbs). She and my father were just swarmed by bees in the woods outside our back yard. They both came running up to the house and Ellie was biting at her side while she was running. She is now inside and is obiously in a lot of pain. She is panting very heavily and occasionally licking her side in one spot. I don't want to mess with the spot because I don't want to hurt her more, but I would guess that she only got stung once since that's the only place I've seen her lick. I did notice that her back keeps flinching like she's in a lot of pain. She also keeps standing up and moving, like she's trying to run away from the pain, but she lays down again and continues to pant. Is there anything I need to do? Can I help her pain by giving her some kind of medicine? Can she get really hurt just by one bee sting? How long should I wait before I get really concerned and what signs should I be looking for if she is really hurt and has been stung more than once?

Optional Information:
Age: 5; Female; Breed: Chocolate Lab/ Pointer

Already Tried:
Nothing, I've been petting on her and waiting for her to calm down, but she just hasn't.
