My black lab mix has a nice shiny coat but she bites on her back haunches excessively and the hair has come off in patches. Now she is starting to bite a patch up on her coat. Do you have any idea what we can do about this or why she bites so much. Is she just nervous or does her skin really itch?

Optional Information:
Age: 2; Female; Breed: Labrador Mix

Already Tried:
Fish oil supplement cleaning and changing her bed everyday

She may be having allergy problems. Usually they will show allergies with ear infections, chewing on their feet, runny eyes. Some do chew on their coats. You can try giving her benadryl and see if that helps any but you will probably need to see your vet for stronger medication. They unfortunately can be allergic to everything that we are and to know just what she is allergic to would require expensive testing and then long term allergy shots. Your vet can give a general steriod which would help with the chewing.
