Sent to Pet Experts September 04 07:39 PM

I have a 12 year old rottweiler who has been vomiting after each meal for the past 8 weeks. The vet said that she needed a hysterectomy to relieve the vomiting but after she had it done she has still been vomiting. What could the problem be? and what can i do?

Optional Information:
Age: 12; Female; Breed: Rottweiler

Already Tried:
Getting a hysterectomy and getting medication for nausea.

Reply to Theresa's Post: No bloodwork was done and they did not send out any of the uterus out to check for cancer. She is urinating quite frequently. She is on "cleocin" i think is the name of the medication and we gave her gravol (sp?) to help with the throwing up. Since the surgery she has not had a stool but the doctor went in with his hand and got some out and he said the stool itself was a little hard. One vet says that it could be an intestinal blockage but the other vet says he doesnt think it could be that because he got some stool out. The problem is that everytime we move her she starts a sort of weezing and has trouble breathing. Thanks in advance for the reply. I will be waiting anxiously for a reply.

The very first thing that needs to be done in your dogs case is to have a blood profile performed to determine if infection is present, or if there is organic disease like kidney or liver failure that is causing this vomiting. I am actually pretty amazingly surprised this hasn't been done. This could really clue you in to the full picture here. Pancreatitis may even be an issue if the lipase and amylase are elevated. Xrays and an abdominal ultrasound will also help the doctor to determine if there are any masses in the abdomen or any abnormalities within the chest to cause her difficulty breathing. Please discuss these with your vet and at the very least have some bloodwork performed I believe then you will be much closer to determining what is going on with your baby.
