About 3 and 1/2 mths ago my 9 yr old Pom a Poo started backing into everything. He seems confused, does NOT sleep at night any more,pacing back and forth until he backs into the baby gate that keeps him confined to our room and hollers out when his rear touches the gate. He (and we are) is exhausted)(he almost falls alseep standing up at times) During he daytime he acts completely normal but as soon as we go to bed it starts. He used to sleep all night on our bed. Now all he does is back up and cry all night. The only night he has slept thru the night is the same day he was groomed and his anal glands were expressed.(he is not scooting his butt on the ground during the day) Our vet thinks he has had a mini stroke( and the fill in vet during his 2 week vacation concurs) They have him on amytryptilien(sp) and some natural drops for anxiety but after almost 6 weeks it is NOT getting any better in fact the meds seem to make him MORE stressed. He has been my constant companion since he was 6 wks old. I am only away from him for a couple of hours at a time for errands and he does have seperation anxiety when I am not here. HELP. I am at my wits end . I am quickly losing confidence in our vet.Did he have a stroke or could it be another problem. He HAS not been neutered(lives inside and is in a fence or on a leash when not in the house.)How can we all get some much needed sleep? Is there another medication that could possibly work better or something I can do to help him sleep?
