Question

Acute exopthalmos in Doxie, unilateral

Sent to Pet Experts August 21, 2006 10:34 p.m.

9 year old female dachshund "Vienna", in very good health. Very active, plays ball, great appetite. Very stocky body habitus. I noticed tonite while playing fetch that her right eye is bigger than the left, exopthalmosis! Looking down at her head holding her eyes shut it is apparent as well.
I felt her thyroid and cannot feel that it is any larger than my other doxie's thyroids. Will try to get her into a vet tomorrow or next day, ASAP.
Is there a good possibility that she has a tumor? She blinks when I pass my finger by, she can see out of both eyes. Her pupils dilate and contract. No tearing or infection. No obvious swelling or edema of surrounding soft tissues. Blood vessels in eye are normal. ????????help??????
Thank you, Barbie Gordon Glasgow MT
