Blocked urinary tract

I have an 8 yr old male cat that can't urinate. Like there is a blockage or something. Is there anything I can give him to alleviate the pain and discomfort as well as break up the potential blockage without taking him into the vet? He keeps trying to go to the bathroom but can't. All of the vets we have asked or the one we took him to are looking to charge more than we can afford.
