Question

Hurt Pekinese

Sent to Pet Experts August 16, 2006 9:59 a.m.

I have a 10 pound, 3 yo pekinese dog that I came home to tonight, and he was acting with his normal high energy level. I began to play with him, as I usually do, by throwing a toy across the room. He ran towards it, and I heard a loud yelp but did not see what happened. He walked slowly away from the toy and laid down. He was shaking, but then got up to greet my fiance as if he weren't hurt. Then, he jumped on top of the couch and yelped loudly again. We checked him for broken bones & swelling and didn't find anything but he's sensitive in his neck area. It's been two hours and he is still shaking; mainly in his neck/shoulder region. He is eating and drinking, but he has stopped moving. We called the emergency room and they advised us to monitor him. He's been opening his mouth as if to bark, but he won't bark. We don't know if we should continue to monitor him or take him to the emergency room.
