Sent to Pet Experts August 07, 2006 9:36 a.m.

I have a five year old cat. The other day when i returned home from work she was waiting for me like usual. Then I noticed her hiding behind the toilet some place I never seen her go. Then she hisses at me something she doesn't do either. As the night went on she laid in the bed with me. When I move she usual goes with me now she sits at the door like she is scared. Over the weekend I had to pick her up take her to her food because she wouldnt leave the room. Take her to her litter box. I live by meself and no one was in my apt. when I wasn't home. I am scared that since she won't do anything with out me she won't eat when I am not there or go to the bathroom in my bedroom. Help

Have there been any changes in the household at all? Visitors, change in food etc.

Has she shown any other signs of illness in recent weeks?

No changes. I left for work in the morning she was running around. When I cam back home she was acting different. No one was home. No one came into my apt. when I wasn't there. It has been extremely hot last week but she was in the air conditioning the whole time. All this weekend all she did was sleep. Laid in the bed with me wouldn't move unless I moved her to her food or to the litterbox. She is acting as if something or someone scared her. She went to the bathroom on my floor because she seemed to scared to leave.

What you are describing could be a couple of different things. First possibility is that the cat is seeing or hearing something you are not. The second, more likely thing, is that this is a pain response. I would recommend treating the cat with one 81 mg asprin, that's a children's or heart asprin. This is acutually a very effective treatment given at a rate of one tablet every other day. If you see improvement with this treatment it is probably a pain response, therefore this will probably warrant a trip to your vet to find the source of the pain. Please contact me if you have further questions.
