My 10 month old male dalmation has a sore

My 10 month old male dalmation has a sore on his neck, about where his collar is. Also the rest of his neck about 5ins diameter is pinkish. I did put some neosorin on the sore which seems to be helping. I wonder if this is just the collar rubbing or can other things be considered.
