pomeranian skin problems & weight issue

I have a 9 year told male pomeranian. He's a little larger than most pomeranians and was 10 pounds until last year. He started gaining weight last year and has gained 4 lbs. he has a skin condition that has spread across his entire body (including the snout). We originally thought it was a food allergy so the vet gave us a special dog food. He was 100% for about 2 weeks and the symptoms came back. We changed vets, they've tested him for hyperthryoid and another more serious condition. They concluded them negative. We've since changed his food again to a holistic brand. His skin got better but it's spreading again. They are black patches. The fur tends to come off and he gets yellowish scabs around the rim of the black spots. His snout has since healed and is much better. But it looks like the problem is spreading again. And I pretty sure the weight is related to the skin. They're occurred hand in hand. Have you ever heard of such a problem????

Reply to Terra's Post: They originally tested the scrappings from his nozzle. They said it was yeast. They gave a topical spray to use. He's still getting the skin problem.

As far as his diet. The skin problem and weight gain came before we changed his food. We only changed his food as suggested by his original vet to see if it was a food allergy. We haven't changed his exercise regiment at all from before his skin problems or now.
