I have a 5 yo.male, Rottw. Neuetered and very gentle. He weighs 126 pounds. He has hip dysplagia and needs surgery. He goes to work with me, I am an RN who works with kids that have head injuries. They love for him to visit. I recently had back surgery and now out of work due to disability. I lost my female, Jack Russell, 13 yo, last week, ok one day, died the next of Congest. Heart Failure. We were devastated.   I have Cheech on a natural diet and make his food (chicken, veg, herbs, etc )to help get weight off his frame. I understand in humans, there are hospitals who do surgery for free or low $ to allow students to watch. Are there any Vet hospitals near me in Hudson, FL that does the Hip Dyplasia surgery as a teaching tools??? Please help us save my best friend and companion. Any info you can give me will be appreciated. I exercise him 45 min to 1 hr a day, and he swims in the warm gulf, loves the tub. I'll do anything to help his quality of life and I realize he needs the hip replacement to really get better. I call anywhere or take him to any state I have to, if possible to help him. Thanks, Ginger Hunter

In my experience the teaching hospitals charge as much or more than the regular vet does for their services. Usually more as you are getting a specialist supervising the surgery.
I know of none that give a break to owners for surgery unless its for experimental procedures.
I gave you the local and national charitable organizations that can help with this plus that site also lists ideas for fund raising.
Perhaps you can go to the hospital you worked for and see about raising funds for the dog's care there.
