I have an 11 year old, male, Alaskan Malamute. He has started having uncontrolled bowel movements. When I wake up in the morning, I find a little trail leading from his bed, to the dog door. There is no discoloration, and the texture is normal. He seems to be releaving himself as he walks. It started about a month ago, and it only happened once or twice. But in the last week, it has happend almost every day, and sometime multiple times in one day. What do I do?

Optional Information:
Age: 11; Male; Breed: Alaskan Malamute

This may well be a sign he is losing the tone of the sphincter muscle. He probably does not even know he is dropping stool. Sometimes this is due to spinal or hip arthritis. If that is the case dog safe arthritis meds from the vet may help.
There are also meds that can help with sphincter tone which may give him back control.
You might see if adding some fiber to his diet helps him. A couple of spoons of oatmeal, sweet potato, canned plain pumpkin, or winter squash might help him control the stool better as it will be bulkier due to the fiber.
You do need to see your vet for the best help for this though.
Hope this helps you!
