Hi,

Your dog could have an abscess, a sialocele (inflammation of its salivary gland), dental disease or cancer. It's hard to say without more information.

Can you email me a photo of the lump?

Reply to Dr. Lisa Boyer's Post: Dr. Boyer, bears lump is about 1 in or greater it is like a ball of flesh prtruding out of the side of his molers and some tissue surrounds the teeth his gums are droopy and inflamed and his breath smells horrible. I gave him baby asperine and he was able to eat but mostly he sleeps we are trying to not have to go to emergency because he is a 90lb chow that is an extreme bitter that is why I cannot examine him very well if I can get a shot I will. The lump is pink and puffy and looks like something that belongs on the inside of his body like a little reddish pink heart with alot of pus.does this help

Yep - sure does. He has an infected tooth. Aspirin is ok for pain. If he is a chow, you can give him a 250 mg buffered aspirin with food. A baby aspirin is too small. He needs to see a vet tomorrow and be put on antibiotics and have the tooth fixed.

It can wait a day.....just not much more.

Good luck!

Happy 4th.....
