Declawing

I am really having a hard time with the decision to have/or not have my cat declawed. Tennie is about 3 years old. Is an inside cat all of the time. We are having problems with her clawing the furniture and especially our cabinets. Everything I have heard and read says how inhumane it is and how painful it is for the cat. I DO NOT want that but yet don't want our home tore up. I have discussed it with my vet. and she says that there is no problem with her doing it, but I feel like I am not getting the "whole story". Can you help me? I don't want "my baby" in any undo pain or long lasting effects!
Thank you,
Becky Preddy
