My 8 year old lab suddenly developed lymphoma about 7 months ago.
We didn't recognize it at first but once we did we immediately took her to the vet and started her on Chemo therapy.
The Chemo worked very well and her overall health seemed to be maintained fairly well.
But she has a persistent problem with catching her breath. The Vet theorized that the rapid tumor growth knocked her windpipe out of kilter.
She believes that she now has LP which I believe stands for Larenghethal Paralysis or something similar.
I understand that there is an operation for that but that it is wrought with complications and with her long term outlook, the Doctor doesn't recomend it.
My questions are:
Does this have to be LP, or could there be another explanation? It did seem to affect her mainly at night, but it now has affected her during the day as well. And I try to keep her calm, but up until very recently she was a strong and active dog. A few weeks ago it seemed to just go away for a few days, but now it's back. It is difficult watching her struggle to breathe sometimes and I have tried giving her ice water and keeping her cool. but lately little seems to work.
Could it be something else? Are there any options other than the operation that may help allieviate this coindition? She is still vital most of the time except for this.
But I am afraid if there is nothing that can be done to help allieviate this we may have to put her down.
I have been reading for the last 7 months about the cancer and have started some dietary and herbal treatments which could prolong her remission, but if she can't breathe right that won't matter much. It scares me and lately her too.
Is there anything that can be done to help her?
Thanks
Bill Corry
