Fido urination problems

My 12 year old dog seems like a walking kidney. We let him out to urinate 15-20 times a day and he goes for 3-4 minutes at a time. Gulps down water. Is this a physical problem or is there a non-salt food we should be feeding him. We feed him only regular dog food, no scraps.
