My 13 year old miniature dachsund with glaucoma and a slight weight problem (read: fat) has developed a malfunctioning tail overnight. The tail no longer wags like a dog tail; the bottom half is normal (like it always used to be), the the top half is curved and wags spontaneously, similar to that of a cat's tail. It is like the top and bottom half of the tail are no longer communicating. What has happened? Should I be concerned? The tail has feeling in it, top and bottom, and she can defecate. Her appetite is normal. She drinks excessively (water, that is) which has led me to believe she also has diabetes. But right now, I am worried about her tail (although it may seem like the least of her worries).
Thanks,
Frank
