my 4 years old black lab seems to have a 'hot ...

my 4 years old black lab seems to have a 'hot spot"or some kind of skin irritation at the base of his tail. Its so bad he won't eat. He just got his skin shaved today for the first time. The vet is closed till tomorrow.Any suggestions?

That is totally understandable. He is uncomfortable which is causing him to not want to eat. The benedryl will help to relieve the itch and calm him down. Try giving him some boiled chicken or boiled hamburger mixed with rice or cottage cheese...they can hardly resist it. :) Also, make sure you apply the neosporin to the area a few times to help prevent infection on the area. Hope this helps and he feels better very quickly for you :)
