ACCEPTED Check Mark

FIV cats do have some problems after anesthesia. Sometimes the immunosuppressive nature of anesthesia can predispose the cat to illness. The first thing I would do is retest the cat. They can be positive as kittens and the seroconvert to negative.
The other problem is the bacteria in the cats mouth.
There are some precautions your vet should take before the dental. I would request antibiotics be started before the dental as well as great supportive care during and after the procedure.
Your vet should be able to explain.
I do think if all the steps are taken, than a dental is a good thing.
Good Luck,
Dr.V
