My Chihuahua had her second set of vaccinations ...

My Chihuahua had her second set of vaccinations at 10 weeks old. She was given a distemper and corona. After the vaccine was given a couple of hours later she had a severe reaction and was taken to the pet hospital and they gave her a shot of benedryl and a steroid for swelling. My question is what would you do for her next set of vaccinations?

I would suggest not giving all the vaccines at once in a combination shot. Instead I would ask the vet to check titers on the different diseases to see if she is already immunized to some of them and then only give the ones she needs. I would not give corona again as that is not a deadly disease for most dogs. You may also want to premedicate for allergic reaction.
You can break out the combo components and do parvo, distemper etc separately a week or more apart. Do not leave the clinic after the shots but stick around to make sure there will be no reaction.
You may want to skip giving lepto as that is the one that bothers most dogs.
Hope this helps you!

Reply to Nancy Holmes's Post: Thank you so much! My vet reccommended that I bring my puppy in for a whole day to be observed and they wanted to put an iv catheter in. I thought this was outrageous. They want to charge me around 200 dollars to keep her for the day. I also called around and some of the other clinics in town say they would just pretreat with benedryl and also split the shots up. If she had a reaction bendryl the only thing you would give her? So if it is why would they need to keep her all day?

I think your vet is being appropriately cautious wanting an all day observation and having an IV ready to go if she needs it. While its expensive I think that your vet is planning to do everything possible to ensure your pup makes it through vaccination safely. Benadryl is a pretreatment of choice but being ready to administer more with no fooling around time might make a big difference to your puppy.
I do think checking titers to decide what vaccines she may need would be a good idea.
You can read about titers and what they do and don't tell you here

You might also want to keep your pup away from infection potentials and then vaccinate once she is over 16 weeks. You do a series because immunity from mom wears off at different times in different pups. Discuss that timing with your vet.
I would do minimal vaccinations with this pup to only the deadly diseases and only one at a time as needed. But discuss this in depth with your vet before making any decisions.
