Sent to Pet Experts May 27, 2006 7:06 a.m.

Our elderly Lab of 15yrs just got her Bordatella shot on Wed. 5/22/06      We also ran out of her reg, food which is (Iams Science Diet Adult Maturity Formula) and substituted Pedigree Chicken and Rice which she has not eatten in about 5yrs
She is now experiencing bouts of Diaharrea for the past 2 days, She is eating and drinking but. We have been giving her white rice and some scrambled egg plain no milk to help settle her stomach. We are not sure if the combo of the shot and change in food is the culprit.
Our question is should we just not give her any food for about 24hrs or what would be the best way to handle the Diaharrea ?

Hello,yes you are right.

When your dog has diarrhea withhold food (not water)for 24 hours to rest the intestines, and give an over-the-counter preparation such as Pepto Bismol - if advised by a veterinarian. (give your vet a call, they know your dog best)

Hope she gets better soon!

Thank you for your help !
We have just moved to a new state and have not yet established ourselves with a new Vet. Your answer just confirmed that we were on the right track. She is much better today after no food and I did give her a half of an Imodium with no ill effects. So far No more bouts of Diaharrea.
Thanks Again !
