Hi my 8 year old shepard has had a teary eye for about a week, I believe this happened last year thought it was allergies. But today in the morning she had problems opening it in the sun and now in the evening it seams a little cloudy and it is oosing a little white tear once and a while. Can you give me any help?
Thank You Jay

Hi Jay: Any time a dog has cloudiness in their eye or eyes it warrants a vet visit. This can be caused by many things including, but not limited to corneal ulcers, glaucoma and cataract development.

I worry she may have tried to scratch her eye and scratched to cornea in the process causing this damage. You can wipe her eyes with a sterile saline solution for now, but keep her from scratching at it and give your vet a call and have her checked and treated properly with an antibiotic ointment. Good luck and hope Athena feels better soon :)

Reply to Gina's Post: Athena was at the vet two weeks ago for her annual checkup so I think they would have caught glaucoma or cataract, but she may have scratched he eye , I think I will watch it for a day to see if it gets worse. Thank you for your help. Jay

You're welcome...yes, they probably would have caught it, but if she scratched the cornea that is a new problem. You can give it a day or two, but don't wait too long :) Good luck to you and to your girl :) Give her a pat from me :)
