I have a Yellow lab and Daschund female mix, she is 1.5 years old. Lately her eyes have been watering a lot and getting really goopy at the corners, is this a problem? I asked this question on here before and got an OK answer. I was told to wash her eyes out with Water and Saline Solution. I did the water part and was going to get saline this morning. When I woke up her eyes were all puffing and red and she wouldn't let me whipe them as usual. She doesn't keep them closed though. The RED part around her eye that looks to hold her eye in, is very swollen, the one side looks like its sliced but if that was true she'd bleed right?

She can see, she isn't acting funny, her eyes are wattering a lot and now swollen, I got help from Dr. Sharon B before but I want to know if I should leave work to take her to the vet or if she can wait until tonight around 4:30/5pm EST

Hi: I am sorry you and your girl are going through this. It sounds like she has an infection, so if you can get her into the vet sooner than later, it would be better for her. The quicker antibiotic treatment is started the better. Since you are now seeing swelling and redness, AND she won't let you wipe them, she could have damaged the eye itself. Its very hard to give you a correct diagnosis on your girl as I can not see the problem, but with the symptoms you are describing, I would not wait to see the vet with her. Good luck and hope she is feeling better soon :)

Reply to Gina's Post: I am at work and cannot take her, I'm not allowed to leave or I could lose my job. I am trying to have a friend of mine pick her up sooner... My real question is,if she cut her eye or the part around her eye it would bleed right? That is what I am worried about...I know she will just sleep during the day or until someone can get to her...

It could have bled and stopped....BUT if she just scratched off the first layer or so it may not have been deep enough to bleed. By all means DO NOT RISK LOSING YOUR JOB...that would do no good. Just get her in as soon as you are able to. With the wound being so close to her eye, I would not recommend putting anything on it as it could do more damage than good if it got into her eye. I have had dogs itch around that area and scratch it and it did not bleed, just looked bad. It is more than possible she just broke some blood vessels in that area causing the redness that you are seeing. Hope this helps answer your question :)

Reply to Gina's Post: I'm thinking alergies is what caused the first problem, then she would scratch or itch when I was not looking... It is almost 9am on the east coast my father can pick her up at 3-3:30 is that soon enough?

I am trying to get a hold of another friend to pick her up earlier...

So 3pm is ok you think, I'm worried about my baby.

I understand your worry, if you can get someone else to bring her in, by all means do so, but if you can't then 3ish should be ok provided she is not showing any severe symptoms. It is soooo nice to see such a concerned pet owner...we don't get many that are willing to rush their pet right to the vet...GOOD FOR YOU!!! Your girl is very lucky to have such a concerned Mom. :) Let me know how you make out after she sees the vet, whether its after 3ish or earlier :)

Reply to Gina's Post: PJ is going to be just fine, Vet thinks it was allergies or she was somewhere she shouldn't have been and then scratched which irritated her eyes... I have Benedryl and some Anti-Biotic Drops for her.

Also was a great time to update all her shots and get more heart worm meds... She is with my parents now waiting to come back home. Thanks for all your help, it is greatly appreciated!
