My labrador ate a pork chop bone that fell on the floor and it was approximately 3 inches long. She never chew it a bit. She gulped it. Should it pass or do I need to do anything now. I am not home during the day and I am concerned.

Thanks for your help

Yes, the safest thing would be to see a vet in the AM. They are going to need to take x-rays to see where that bone is and if it is moving. If she starts vomiting or acting sick, you should seek an emergency vet tonight if you can. Sometimes bones can pass on their own, but sometimes they cannot. Either way, a vet will need to supervise her case until it is resolved.

Reply to Courtney Carroll, DVM's Post: If she has a bowel movement in the morning, can I assume she is ok. I leave at 5:30 in the morning and I would have a tough time getting to the vet. If you feel it is necessary I can adjust my schedule. It has already been 3 hours since she ate it and she seems fine.

Thanks.
