Our rottwieller ( dozer ) is 3 years old, He just recently started getting an irritated spot on his front leg about 4 inches up from his paw, he keeps licking it andmessing with it, we put peroxide on it, but it didnt seem to have any infection, it doesnt seem to be getting any bigger, but its like a hard knot. I tried to squeeze it and still seen no sign of infection.Is there somthing we could try using? Our next step is our local vet clinic, just hoping we could save the huge bill, due to the fact that they always feel they have to sedate him every time. thanks ,T.B.

It sounds like Dozer needs to be seen for some antibiotics and possibly some anti-inflammatories (to stop the itchiness) - I'd stop putting peroxide on it as it destroys any new cellular layer that is being developed and can add to the irritation. Is he licking or itchy anywhere else? In the meantime - try to distract him from licking (I know easier said than done) Sometime giving them a Kong Ball filled with canned dog food in the holes is enough to keep them entertained and away from the leg
